Free Winter Orchestra And Chorus Concert Returns To Millburn

The concert is set for Dec. 12 at Millburn High School.

MILLBURN, NJ - The Music Department of Millburn High School's annual Winter Chorus and Orchestra Concert returns to town at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 12.

The concert, to be performed in the high school auditorium, is free and open to the public. Ensembles are under the direction of Ms. Flora Yousefi, Director of Orchestra, and Mr. Rodrigo Vega, Director of Choirs.

Cantica Nova will perform two folksong settings, Old Dan Tucker from the American South and Carrickfergus from the British Isles as well as I’ve Got Peace Like A River, a song in the style of an African-American Spiritual.

The Millburn Chorale will perform two pieces, Lift Thine Eyes from Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Bring Me Little Water Silvy, a blues-style folk-song arranged by Moira Smiley.

The Chamber String Orchestra will perform movements from Mozart’s Divertimento, Suk’s Serenade, and Bartók’s Rumanian Folk Dances. The Symphony Orchestra will perform Brahm’s Hungarian Dance No. 5, Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Waltz, and Sibelius’ Finlandia.

The Miller Chorus will perform pieces by Z. Randall Stroope and Joan Szymko as well as an arrangement of Rhythm of Life from Sweet Charity. The concert will conclude with a combined Chorus and Orchestra performance of Walker’s How Can I Keep From Singing?.
