Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers Allowed Again In Millburn

MILLBURN, NJ — The landscaping soundtrack is changing in Millburn after the township’s summer restriction on gas-powered leaf blowers ended.

For Millburn residents, the seasonal change matters because it affects when neighborhoods may hear landscaping noise and when property owners can tackle fall cleanup without risking a warning or fine.

Gas-powered models may be used again beginning Tuesday, September 8, under Millburn’s seasonal rules. Their use is permitted from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends, according to the township.

Golf courses may use the equipment from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The rules apply to residents, professional landscapers and township employees. Landscaping businesses must register with Millburn, although the township waived the registration fee for 2026.

The change means more daytime landscaping noise may return as fall cleanup approaches. The rules still limit when crews and property owners may operate the equipment.

Enforcement begins with a warning. Later violations carry fines of $250, $500 and $1,000, while subsequent offenses can bring a $2,000 fine or suspension or revocation of a landscaper’s registration.
