Girls on the Run Seeks Coaches for Fall Season

Volunteer, and make a difference in the lives of local girls

Girls on the Run New Jersey East is seeking volunteer coaches for its upcoming fall season, which will run from mid-September through mid-November. Locally, the program will be offered at several school and park sites, including Millburn’s Taylor Park. Registration for the fall program opened on August 1.

Girls on the Run is a physical-based youth development program that inspires girls in 3rd-8th grade to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Trained volunteer coaches meet with the girls twice per week and lead lessons that foster the girls’ confidence, help them build connections with their peers and encourage meaningful contribution to their community through a service project. Running is used as a tool to reinforce lesson topics. The 10-week program concludes with all participants completing a celebratory 5k event, which gives them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.

Why coach? A former Girls on the Run coach describes her motivation: "I coach because I love helping girls realize their fullest potential of strength, self-confidence, sass, silliness, and self-love!"
