Good, Green Fun at the Cora Harshorn Arboretum This September for Toddlers, Teddy Bears, Turtles, Hikers and Artists!

Many new programs and events this fall at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum in Short Hills!

September is great month at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum in Short Hills for toddlers, teddy bears, turtles, hikers, campers and artists! Kick off the fall season with a Teddy Bear Parade on Saturday, September 10th. Bring your favorite fluffy stuffed friend for a special treat, listen to stories and visit our “Bear Hospital” to have your friend deemed “Beary Healthy”. Then, join us for a parade in the woods! There will be two seatings for bears and guests: 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. The popular Turtle Tots program for preschoolers resumes beginning September 13th. Turtle Tots discover nature through guided age-appropriate discussions, nature walks and hands-on learning. New this year at the Arboretum is the Thursday morning Arboretum Sprouts program for children ages 1-2 years old and their parents or caregivers. Sprouts will enjoy simple stories, songs, games and crafts following seasonal nature themes. Weather permitting, each Sprout session will conclude with a short hike outside. Classes begin Thursday, September 15th. Also new this September is the Art Bungalow at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum 10-week program for artists who are 5 – 8 years old. This unique nature-inspired art class encourages creativity as participants make one-of-a-kind projects including Boho Batiking, Whimsical Dreamcatchers, Beading and more! The Art Bungalow class takes place every Tuesday at 4:00 pm, beginning September 13th. On Saturday, September 17th, adults and teens ages 15 and up can join the Messy Artist’s Donna Bernstein at the Paint and Sip Ice Tea Social at the Arboretum. Budding artists can draw inspiration from the arboretum’s majestic woodlands, make new friends and create a painted masterpiece! All materials will be provided and space is limited. On Sunday, September 18th, join our Arboretum’s Teen Volunteers and learn about the Leaf Pack during the first Guided Hike of the fall through our woodlands. Guides will tell you all about their ongoing Citizen Science Projects, and how you can become a Citizen Scientist with the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum. Hikes depart at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, and last approximately 45 minutes. To wrap up a busy September, pitch a tent in the woods, roast s’mores and more at the Fall Family Camp-Out at the Arboretum on September 24 – 25. This is a great opportunity for a first-time camping experience for the whole family. Dinner and breakfast provided as well as activities such as a night hike, firelight stories and other surprises!
