Hairspray Blowout Bash Coming to Taylor Park

The event will celebrate the opening of the Paper Mill Playhouse's season.

Get your big hair ready. The Paper Mill Playhouse is planning a community event inspired by its first production of the 2010-11 season "Hairspray."

The Paper Mill Playhouse's Hairspray Blowout Bash is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 19 at 1-5 p.m. in Taylor Park and Main Street. "Hairspray" takes the Paper Mill stage Sept. 22-Oct. 17.

The event will include a number of contests. Shayne Miller, Paper Mill spokesman, said the contests are still being planned, but it is certain there will be a big hair contest.

The Party Dolls, which performs the girl group music of the 1960s, will perform. There will be amusement rides, spin art, a giant game of Twister and a moonwalk.

The event isn't the only thing to promote the production of "Hairspray." The Hairspray Dance Invention Contest is a search to find a dance move to include in the performance. You can vote in the first round of entries on Facebook.
