More than 35 Scouts and adult leaders from both Scouts BSA Troop 19 and Boy Scout Troop 17, both from St. Rose a Lima Church in Short Hills, recently flexed their muscles to help parishioners of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church transform their lawn into a pumpkin patch consisting of thousands of pumpkins weighing an astonishing 44,000 pounds.

“Amazing teamwork by both troops to quickly move almost 400 pounds of pumpkins per minute, all for a single mission,” said Troop 19 First Class Scout Katie Cannon.

"Although it was a lot of hard work moving over 44,000 pounds of pumpkins to create a pumpkin patch, I think it was important for us Scouts to help out our community and local charities through the Wyoming Presbyterian Church," said Troop 17 project lead and Second Class Scout Tom Bredlau.

Both Troops were proud to assist this initiative, as 100 percent of the proceeds from the pumpkin sales are distributed to local and regional charities throughout the year, including the Navajo Reservation that grew the pumpkins. Some of the local missions that benefit include the Interfaith Hospitality Network, the House of Mercy Mission, and the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless.

The pumpkin patch is open every day through October 31, and located at the Wyoming Presbyterian Church, 432 Wyoming Ave, Millburn, NJ.
