Man And Teen Charged After Woman Robbed At Park In Millburn: Police

A man and a teen were charged with robbery after a woman was pushed to the ground and robbed of her purse at a Millburn park, police said.

MILLBURN, NJ — A man and a teen were charged with robbery in Millburn Wednesday night after stealing a woman's purse at Taylor Park, police said.

The woman was pushed to the ground and suffered "significant facial injuries" during the robbery, they said.

Police said that at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, they responded to Taylor Park on a report of a robbery in progress.

The victim, a 46-year-old woman, said she was walking when two people approached from behind. They "forcefully tackled her and shoved her face into the cement sidewalk," causing the injuries, police said.

The suspects then stole the woman's purse and cell phone and fled toward Millburn Avenue, police said

They were described as wearing a black puffy jacket and wearing a green mask.

Responding Detectives Lt. Gil Tavares and John Mendelsohn found a man and a male teen matching the description on Millburn Avenue, near Rawley Place, police said. Police said the pair were hiding behind a car.

The investigation led to the arrest of Kazir Stokes, 20, of Newark, formerly of Millburn, and a 17-year-old male from Springfield. The name of the latter was not released because of his age.

Police found the victim’s phone and purse in the area of the arrest, they said.

Stokes was charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy. He was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

The teen was charged with juvenile delinquency (robbery and conspiracy) and taken to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility, police said.
