Marines Cancel Fleet Week Landing At Millburn High School

MHS would have been the only high school in New Jersey to be selected for Fleet Week New York 2017, administrators said.

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn school administrators announced Thursday morning that due to the weather, the U.S. Marines have cancelled the Fleet Week aircraft landing and public events at Millburn High School scheduled for May 25. Our original article follows below.

The Marines will soon be landing in Millburn. On Thursday, May 25, U.S. Marines participating in Fleet Week New York 2017 will fly in and land four Marine Corps aircraft at Millburn High School.

Millburn High is the only high school in New Jersey to be selected this year to host the event, according to a statement from district administrators.

The aircraft are scheduled to land on the high school athletic fields at 10 a.m. Marines will then disembark the aircraft, and set up a static display that will be available to Millburn High School students and staff from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Community members are invited to participate in the events from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., school administrators said.

The event will include:

  • 4 Marine Corps aircraft
  • An opportunity to walk through each aircraft and interact with Marine pilots
  • A military working dog display
  • An explosive ordinance robotics demonstration
  • A demonstration of the different weapon systems that are used in the Marine Corps

Marines will embark the aircraft at approximately 3 p.m. and leave at approximately 3:30 p.m., administrators said.

Parking for the event will be available on the front lawn of Millburn High School, 462 Millburn Avenue from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
