MHS Volleyball Squad Falls in Home Opener

Lady Millers defeated by Newark Academy

The 2011 Millburn High School Girls Volleyball team took to the court Monday for their home opener against Newark Academy.

Led by senior co-captains Michelle Brauer, Alexis Perry and Melissa Rayvid, the Millers were looking to rebound from last week's defeat to Cedar Grove.

In the opening match the Millers quickly fell behind 3-0, but rallied to take the lead at 9-6, on the strength of service points from Rayvid. The visitors stormed back to take a 20-14 lead and held on for the game 1 victory, 25-18. Tiffany Chan chipped in with 2 points on her serve.

In game 2, the Millers again fell behind early at 8-5, but  rallied to tie the score at 11-all, on the strength of net play from junior Isabella Morreale who registed at kill and dig during the comeback. The Millers eventually took the lead at 15-13 on the strength of Brauer's serve. After tying the score at 17-all, the visitors capitalized on Millburn errors to claim game 2 and the match at 25-20.

The Millburn squad looks for their first win of the season on Wednesday when they travel to Newark to play against Barrington.
