Millburn and CHS Softball Play More than a Game

The HK Community Fund sponsored the game, where Lauryn Hill's daughter sang the national anthem and the family of Allison Frowley threw out the first pitch.

On Friday evening, Millburn High School met Columbia High School at Meadowlands near Floods Hill for an in-division conference game, where more than the score was at stake.

The game was sponsored by HK Community Fund, which provided the banners, trophy and two MVP plaques. It was the inaugural HK Community Fund Cup Challenge and honored Allison Frowley, a softball player for CHS in the early 1990s.

Frowley, who died suddenly in 2004 from an undetected heart arrhythmia, was honored at the game. Her aunt, Brenda Wilkin, and mother, Sandra Frowley, threw out the first pitch. Frowley and Wilkin have created Allison's Heart Foundation for Children & Young Adults, which seeks to spread awareness and education for detection.

Selah Marley sang the national anthem to open the game.  Marley is a 7th-grader at South Orange Middle School and the daughter of South Orange’s own Lauryn Hill.

Columbia won the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on Mariah Major's safety squeeze. The final score was 2-1.
