Bridge Ceremony Kicks Off "Downtown Millburn Week" and "Millburn Restaurant Week"

Ribbon cutting ceremony officially opens the revamped bridge and tells residents,"We're back in business."

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at 8:45 this morning on the Millburn Avenue Bridge to highlight this weekend’s spring events, "Downtown Millburn Week" and "Millburn Restaurant Week." The ceremony was also a signal to the community that the bridge construction is over and business is back to usual.

“We're very pleased that the downtown has returned to normalcy after the winter.  We look forward to a weeklong celebration with residents and local businesses participating,” said Harold Klein, Executive Director of the Downtown Millburn Alliance.

“The bridge and the downtown look beautiful,” declared Shayne Miller, President of The Millburn Chamber of Commerce, who was present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “The construction was difficult during the winter and it was hard to see the business suffer. But it’s business as usual now.”  Miller is also the Director of Press and Publicity at the Papermill Playhouse.

“Forty retail stores and eighteen restaurants will be participating in this week’s celebrations,” said Klein, noting that promotions, drawings and special events will take place at participating businesses.  He added that the parking problems have been alleviated and “there is a better traffic flow” now in the downtown district.

“This is a vibrant business community.  The easier it is for consumers to visit the Millburn-Short Hills shopping areas, the easier it is for all of us,” said Miller with a smile.
