Millburn Baseball Wins Thriller Over Montclair

Millers advance in Greater Newark Tournament with 4-3 victory over Montclair.

After winning an eight-inning battle Thursday afternoon, Millburn High School Varsity Baseball has advanced to the semifinals in the Greater Newark Tournament.

The Millers entered the seventh inning ahead of the Montclair Mounties, but the Mounties tied the score at three. The game would go into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth inning, Millburn sophomore pitcher Ian Riddell relieved senior Dan Frischman with runners on second and third base. In the high-pressure situation, Riddell struck out the batter, ending the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, junior Anthony Del Greco ignited the Millburn rally with a two-out double. Following his at-bat, freshman David Talpalar delivered an RBI into center field, winning the game for the Millers. The final score after eight innings was 4-3.

Millburn starting pitcher Stephen Near was relieved by Frischman in the third inning due to back problems.

The Millers continue their run in the Greater Newark Tournament on Saturday, with a semi-final game against the West Essex Knights.
