Millburn Board of Education Appoints New Superintendent

Robert Zywicki takes the helm on July 1.

The Millburn Board of Education has officially named Robert Zywicki - an educator currently with the High Point Regional School District – as its new superintendent of schools.

According to a release, Zywicki will begin working for the district on July 1, pending approval from the Executive County Superintendent for Essex County.

“Throughout this exhaustive process, we have searched for a leader who will continue to enhance our already outstanding achievements,” stated John Westfall-Kwong, Board of Education president.

“[Zywicki’s] implementation of blended learning programs, strong instructional support and passion to see every student excel convinced us that he was the right person to lead our district,” Westfall-Kwong asserted.

“My experiences teaching in middle and high school classrooms and as Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology have given me a solid foundation to continue Millburn’s excellent programming,” stated Zywicki in a release. “I am committed to high achievement and will work tirelessly to meet the needs of every student… I’m excited to serve Millburn schools as superintendent.”

CREDENTIALS

According to a release from the Millburn Township Public Schools:

“Zywicki currently serves as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology of the High Point Regional School District, in Sussex County, NJ. He expanded the district’s course offerings of AP Courses, including the AP Capstone Diploma program. Zywicki established Professional Learning Communities in which teachers collaborate to map curricula. He upgraded the district’s network and technology infrastructure which enabled a full conversion to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and Google Applications for Education. In October 2014, he organized a Google Summit that was attended by over 400 administrators and teachers from five states. In addition to curriculum and instruction, Dr. Zywicki has strong experience with school finance, budgeting, and grant management.

“Zywicki is an adjunct professor at both the Rutgers University Center for Effective School Practices and the School of Education at Saint Peter’s University, where he teaches graduate courses on methodology, curriculum development, staff supervision, and fundamentals of assessment. He is a frequent presenter for the Foundation for Educational Administration on project-based learning and the implications of the Common Core State Standards across all grade levels. Zywicki has served as a consultant to several districts on how to increase efficiency and digital learning opportunities for students via Google Apps for Education.

“While working as a Supervisor at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, Zywicki was selected by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) as one of 26 educators from across the globe for its prestigious Emerging Leaders program. The ASCD Emerging Leaders program is a two year sequence that prepares mid-career educational leaders to influence policy and curriculum programs at state and national levels.

“Zywicki taught Advanced Placement (AP) Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics at Montgomery High School, in Montgomery Township, NJ. He served as an AP exam reader for three years. He also was a contributor for the Council for Economic Education’s AP Teacher’s Manual and Paul Krugman’s Economics for AP textbook. He taught history and coached lacrosse at Voorhees High School. Zywicki started his career in education teaching middle school social studies in the Bayonne Public Schools.

“Zywicki is a member of the NJ Department of Education (NJDOE) Elementary and Secondary Education Act Advisory Council. In 2012, he was tapped to develop and write the NJDOE Model Curriculum. Zywicki is a frequent blogger and was named one of the “Top Ten Blogs of 2012” by ASCD Edge. Zywicki is a member of the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, New Jersey Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the International Society for Technology in Education.

“Zywicki holds a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers College of Rutgers University. He earned his Master of Arts and Doctor of Education from the School of Education at Saint Peter’s University.”
