Millburn, NJ – The Millburn Board of Education has approved a $91.57 million proposed budget for the district’s schools in 2016-17.

The proposed budget – approved during the board’s March 7 public meeting – would increase taxes by $280 for a homeowner with a property valued at $1.08 million.

If the Essex County Office of the Department of Education approves the Millburn BOE’s proposed budget, the local tax levy will rise by 2.68 percent to $84.06 million.

The proposed budget includes a $548,257 hike to the General Fund tax levy due to increased health care costs, according to school administrators.

This increased health care cost will require a waiver from the state to exceed New Jersey’s 2 percent tax levy cap, school officials stated.
