Millburn Cancels After School Activities Thursday

Winter weather causes a change in plans for Nov. 15.

MILLBURN, NJ - While the Millburn School District will have regular dismissal today, all activities after school have been canceled, according to the district website.

Superintendent Christine Burton thanked the community for their support.

"Thank you for your understanding on this first day of winter weather. Please know that our first priority is always the safety of our students and staff," Burton said in an email. " We are also very sensitive to how much impact the decision to open or close schools in bad weather can have on families, and childcare options."

Burton said that the decision to keep school open was made after consulting several sources.

"As the worst of today’s weather appears to be occurring during the early evening hours, after school activities have been canceled," Burton said. "High School students should check with club advisors/coaches regarding some activities taking place right after school and ending early."

Burton noted the Township Public Works department is salting and prepping roads and the Transportation Department is in contact with the bus companies, and reminding all drivers to take it slow and safe in these wet, sloppy conditions.

"Be careful as you make your way home this afternoon and in the early hours tomorrow as icing conditions are in the forecast for the morning," Burton said. " We will make a determination tomorrow morning regarding any possible delay."
