Millburn Car Crashes Result In Hospital Visits

Millburn authorities reported crashes at the intersection of Essex and Holmes streets and Morris Turnpike near Route 24.

Millburn, NJ – Millburn authorities reported that two vehicle crashes resulting in hospital visits took place in the township on Saturday.

The first crash took place around 12:15 p.m. when a Lincoln SUV and a Honda Civic collided at the intersection of Essex and Holmes streets, Millburn police stated.

Witnesses allegedly told police that the driver of the SUV, a 49-year-old woman from Irvington, hit the right rear of the Honda Civic, which then lost control and hit a parked car in front of the Sakura Restaurant, North Jersey.com reported.

The SUV then hit a wall in front of the restaurant and came to a stop, authorities stated.

Emergency responders transported the Irvington woman to Morristown Medical Center; police later charged her with careless driving.

According to police, the second crash took place around 3 p.m., when a 43-year-old Millburn resident’s Toyota SUV flipped during an apparent head-on collision with a Ford Escape attempting to merge onto Route 24 west from Morris Turnpike.

Emergency responders extricated the woman by climbing on top of the vehicle, cutting through its windshield and moving the woman onto a stretcher, NorthJersey.com reported.

She was taken to University Hospital in Newark, authorities stated.

A 10 and 11-year-old in the Ford and a 66-year-old in the Toyota were uninjured, authorities stated.

The driver of the Ford - a 48-year-old woman from Union - was cited for failure to yield, police stated.
