Millburn Community Invited To Discussion On Race And Immigration

Expert Dr. Khyati Y. Joshi will speak at Millburn High School about race, immigration, and citizenship in a presentation open to the public.

MILLBURN, NJ — An expert on race and immigration will speak at Millburn High School on Jan. 21 about "Where we've been and where we are going: Race, immigration and citizenship" in a presentation open to the community.

Dr. Khyati Joshi, a professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Founder of the Institute for Teaching Diversity & Social Justice, has been working with Millburn teachers for two years. Her training them is done in support of the 2019-2020 School District Goal #3: "To…eliminate anti-bias language and expression, and to increase the awareness of cultural diversity and global awareness in response to the growing changes in our demographics to an inclusive culture in our schools."

Joshi frequently speaks about the intersection of race, religion and immigration in the United States.

The district said, "This timely, engaging and informative evening is open to all in the Millburn Community. In light of recent incidents of hate, racism and intolerance in nearby communities, this presentation aims to heighten and expand sensitivity, awareness, knowledge and acceptance/tolerance of the world's and our community's diversity."

The presentation takes place on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at Millburn High School, 462 Millburn Ave.
