In Millburn: Community Remembers the Holocaust

Local synagogue to host Yom Hashoah program featuring survivor, Martin Weiss.

Congregation B’nai Israel in Millburn, 160 Millburn Ave., will commemorate “Yom Hashoah,” Holocaust Remembrance Day, with a public program at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 12.

The program, “In Their Own Words: A Family’s Holocaust Story,” will feature a presentation by Martin Weiss, a Holocaust survivor and a member of the Survivors Speakers Bureau of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Weiss will share the story of his family’s experience under the Nazis and Hungarians in World War II, including deportation to the Munkacs Ghetto, Auschwitz-Birkenau and Mauthausen concentration camp.

As part of the program, the names of Congregation B’nai Israel family members who perished during the Holocaust will be read aloud.

The event is free and open to the Millburn community.

According to a release, Yom Hashoah is the annual day of commemoration in Israel and in countries around the world to remember the approximately six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust.
