In Millburn: False Implication / DUI / Car Thefts / Mall Shoplifting / Credit Card Fraud

Police Blotter: Aug. 27 to 31

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are reprinted directly from the Millburn police blotter, a listing of selected incidents that may not include the full scope of activity in the area. All of the following incidents are accusations, and all suspects should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

On August 27, Millburn Police Officer Laverty stopped a 2012 Honda Accord on South Orange Ave at JFK Pkwy for being unregistered. The driver, 35 year old Daniel Smith out of Toms River, was arrested for falsely implicating another, hindering, revoked driving, and operating an unregistered and uninsured vehicle. The driver was released pending a court date.

On August 29, Millburn Police Officer Baerga responded to a report of a motor vehicle stopped on JFK Pkwy near the mall. The 2014 Honda CRV was occupied by 49 year old Rubio Felix out of Warren. Felix was arrested for driving under the influence and released pending a court date.

On August 30, Millburn Police Officer Nacim responded to Morris Tpk on a report of an erratic driver. Officer Nacim observed a vehicle that fit the description, 2011 Honda Civic, in the driveway of 54 Morris Tpk. The investigation led to the arrest of the passenger, 21 year old Michael Michalak out of Chatham, for possession of a hypodermic needle.

On August 30, two Tulip Lane residents reported burglaries to their unlocked vehicles sometime overnight between August 29 and 30. The residents report loose change and a wrapped present were taken from the vehicles. The incidents are under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On August 30, Millburn Police Officer Manuyag responded to Burberry’s at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Burberry’s personnel reported that a female concealed two articles of clothing valued at $590 and left the store without making payment. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On August 31, Millburn Police Officer Delgado responded to Sydney Thomas at The Mall at Short Hills on a report of an individual using a fraudulent credit card. Store personnel reported that the suspect, later identified as Sean Scott, 45, of Phoenix, attempted to purchase a Rolex watch valued at $45,150. Scott was placed under arrest and charged with credit card fraud and hindering. He was released pending a court date.
