Millburn FC Wanderers Beat Long Valley

The soccer team claimed a 3-2 win in United Soccer League action.

A determined Millburn FC Wanderers team held off a second half surge from Long Valley United, winning 3-2 in USL action.

Millburn and Long Valley were tied 2-2 at half time, thanks to two goals from player/coach Charlie Guevara.  The Wanderers displayed great poise by maintaining possession of the ball, skillful passing, and defending well in their own half.

"We switched up our defense this week," said Guevara, "and it made an immediate impact on how well we were able to defend and prevent Long Valley from passing the ball to open players."

The Wanderers Ray Perlee scored the game winner early in the second half.  The defense spent the second half fighting off waves of attacks from the frustrated United players.  Alun Stern, Marc Maidenberg, Dave Stone and Dan Rudd anchored the Millburn back line. Goalie Jeff Cohn kept the Wanderers in the game with two big second half saves.

The Wanderers have improved their record to 2-4, and have played well despite the four losses.  Team manager Cohn added, "The Wanderers are a new team and need a number of games under our belt before we hit our stride.  There is a lot of talent on this team, and it takes quite an effort to properly manage it."
