MILLBURN, NJ — A trio of Millburn families were left without a home on the day after Thanksgiving after a fire took place in their apartment building's basement. Multiple neighboring fire agencies lent aid during the Friday blaze, authorities said.
Millburn Fire Chief Robert Echavarria said that firefighters arrived on the 100-block of Millburn Avenue around 3:12 p.m. in response to an activated fire alarm at an apartment building and a report about smoke coming from the building’s basement.
On arrival, firefighters were directed to the rear basement entrance, where they found a fire in progress with a “heavy smoke condition” in the basement and additional smoke throughout the building.

Authorities evacuated several residents from the building before extinguishing the fire, which was confined to the basement area. None of the victims were injured, Echavarria said.
The American Red Cross relocated three families due to fire damage. Authorities condemned the building, as it had no gas, heat, water or power, Echavarria said.
