In Millburn: Freeholders Honor Championship Tennis And Baseball Teams

Millburn High School’s State Champion Boys Tennis and Baseball teams were honored by the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders during a June 10 ceremony at the Hall of Records in Newark.
The tennis team won both the 2015 Group 3 State Championship and Tournament of Champions for the fourth consecutive year, once again claiming the title as the #1 team in New Jersey.
The baseball team won the first Group 4 State Championship in school history.

The Board’s commendations were sponsored and presented by Freeholders Patricia Sebold of Livingston and Leonard Luciano of West Caldwell.
“Today we welcome two groups of outstanding student-athletes from Millburn High School,” said Freeholder Patricia Sebold.

“Being invited down here to the Hall of Records with one team is very special,” said Millburn High School Athletic Director Theodore D’Alessio. “But accompanying two state championship teams… well… this day will always be remembered as something very, very special.”
- Tennis team members included: Senior Captain Jake Aronskind, Captain Jonathan Atwater, Captain Tyler Schick, Captain Alex Shedlin, Weill Besen and Alex Darvin; Juniors Jordan Beacham, Austin Jia and Darren Ting; Sophomores Jeremy Bader, Marco Mihajlovic and Charlie Shanker; and Freshmen Alex Jacobs, Mike Mirsky and Bryan Schick. The team was coached by Bill Wickenheisser and Lee Robinson.
- Baseball team members included: Seniors Max Jacobs, Max Birner, Kyle Weissman, Jack Schwartz, Matt Abrams and Jared Harris; Juniors Jordan Brisgel, John Serruto, Dean Schweinler, Nick Minter, Ryan Adelman, Cole Paulson, Michael Garawitz, Brian Lannino, Matt Jacob and Kevin Czapelski; Sophomores Richard Schiekofer, Connor Lally and Jared Nemet; and Freshmen Peter Serruto and Peter Gula. The team was coached by Head Coach Brian Chapman and assistant coaches David Drechsel, Christopher Drechsel and Tyler Pittinger, and assisted by team managers Jillian Berkowitz, Alexa Silverberg, Paige Krikorian and Miranda Brody.
