MHS Girls Varsity Lacrosse Wins Overtime Thriller
Local team captures 16-15 win over New Providence.
The MHS Girls Varsity Lacrosse team took an early lead and never fell behind New Providence during Saturday afternoon’s home game. But, the visiting team was never far behind, and managed to tie the score multiple times in the second half, forcing the game into overtime.
Stephanie Tortora was the first to score, and added two more goals in the second half. Lilly Orlan also scored three goals, as did Megan Weissman (including the game-winning overtime goal). Meghan Lacy (two goals), Kelsey Polansky, Alison Tortora, Rebecca Bergman, Sydney Steffen and Malia Reynolds also contributed goals to the Millburn tally.
The score leading into half-time was Millburn 8, New Providence 6. A potential goal by Sandra Stein was deemed to have gone into the goal just after the buzzer. The score at the end of regulation play was 15-15, with New Providence scoring the tying goal with less than a minute to play. Millburn managed one goal in the six-minute overtime period and held New Providence scoreless for a 16-15 win.
