Millburn High School Media Specialist Honored

Millburn High School Media Specialist, LaDawna Harrington, receives Presidents Award by the New Jersey Association of School Librarians.

MILLBURN, NJ - Millburn High School Media Specialist, LaDawna Harrington was awarded with the President’s Award at the 2018 New Jersey Association of School Librarians conference this year. This prestigious award is presented by the NJASL President to someone who has demonstrated excellence and has advanced the profession of school library media specialist.

Harrington started her library career at Ohio University and Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis. She has worked as the corporate librarian for a biopharmaceutical company, taught at Avenel Middle School where she was featured on NJ ClassRoom Close-up TV show, and has been the Media Specialist at Millburn High School 2010.

Harrington said she is looking forward to moving into the new High School media center, opening in January. It was part of the 2016 bond referendum construction projects.

Harrington was the first recipient of the New Jersey Association of School Librarians’ Villy Gandhi Leadership Training Scholarship, followed with their NJ Outstanding Media Specialist Award. For the (NJASL) she is a past president, and just recently the NJ delegate to the American Association of School Libraries (AASL) Affiliate Assembly. She has served on a number of committees for both NJASL and AASL.

She has also served as President for LibraryLinkNJ, on the Advisory Board for the Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries, on the DOE Technology Strategic Planning Committee and the NJ Information Technology Infrastructure School Advisory Group. She is a part-time lecturer for Rutgers the State University. LaDawna is currently the co-chair of the Leadership task force for Future Ready Schools NJ, working on indicators for librarians’ section. She was just asked to join the Library Network Review Board with State Library of New Jersey.

Harrington is the author of the book Guided Research, 2007 & 2011, and has written several articles for a variety of journals. Her latest book, Guided Inquiry in Action: Middle School, 2016, is co-authored with Dr. Leslie Maniotes and Patricia Lambusta.
