Millburn High Student Gets a 'Boost' For His Academic Achievements

The Millburn-Short Hills Scholastic Boosters award senior $1,000; Now accepting grant applications for 2015-16.

The Millburn-Short Hills Scholastic Boosters named Millburn High School senior Aaron Friedman as the 2015 recipient of their “Give a Boost” Award of $1,000.

Friedman took home $1,000 as part of the award, which honors students’ “diverse academic, community and personal interests and accomplishments.”

Friedman, who will be attending Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration next year according to a release, participates in Princeton Model Congress, forensics, and is the sports-page editor for the school newspaper. Friedman is also a volunteer for two clubs that are dedicated to mentoring students with special needs, PAIRS and the Friendship Circle.

Friedman is the founder of the Millburn High School Investment Club, and co-founder of the Philanthropy Club. He is an intern for Senator Corey Booker and a writer for TheAlternativePress.com. He has also played lacrosse at Millburn High for four years.

According to a release, the Millburn-Short Hills Scholastic Boosters have provided educational grants to township students since 1947, assisting more than 1,000 students to close the shortfall in their college funding packages, with awards totaling more than $1 million.

Individual Booster grants, which are based on demonstrated financial need, have ranged, in recent years, from $750 to $2,000 for the school year.

Students who reside in Millburn Township may apply for a grant for any or all of their years of post-high school, undergraduate education.

The Scholastic Boosters are now accepting applications for grants for the 2015-2016 college year.
