Millburn Middle School Students Head to State Competition
MathCounts team places third in recent contest

On Saturday, Feb. 14, the Millburn Middle School MathCounts team participated in the North Jersey Regional MathCounts Competition held at New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.
According to a release, the MMS MathCounts team consists of 10 students from grades 6, 7 and 8, who were selected based on the results of a school MathCounts contest that was open to all students.
Team members included: Kyle Yang, Derek Sun, Ariel Stein, Josh Park, Arnold Jia, Tejas Gupta, Kevin Wang, Sachin Sahay, Nicholai Dimov and Eric Guo.

The MMS team came in third of 31 teams participating, and Stein, Gupta, Park and Jia will be advancing to the state competition on March 14.
Four Millburn team members were in the top 10 of a field of 262 of some of the best math students in North Jersey, the release stated.

“We are most proud of the camaraderie of our team and the good sportsmanship exhibited by all. The team found that there are many great math students in other schools as well,” MMS coaches and Middle School math teachers Mary Wiley and Mary Beth Cimino stated in a release.
