Millburn Police Blotter: March 17 to 21

Incidents included home burglary, DUI and theft.

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Millburn Police Blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

On 3/17, Officer DeRosa responded to area of JFK Parkway by the Short Hills Hilton on a report of unconscious female in a black VW coupe stopped in the center lane of traffic. The driver of the vehicle, Deborah Brien age 46 of Livingston, was subsequently arrested following an investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol. Brien was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, open container of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, and delaying traffic. Brien was then released pending a court date.

On 3/19, Officer Lipke responded to the area of Millburn Ave. and Spring St. on report of a Burglary that had just taken place. The victim had returned home to his residence on Spring St. and notice that the back door was broken. Upon entering the house the victim noticed Calvin Battle age 56 of Newark. Battle then ran onto Millburn Ave. where he was apprehended by the police. Battle was charged with theft, criminal mischief, and Burglary. Battle was then placed in the Essex County Jail pending his court date.

On 3/20, Officer Zonn responded to Harmon Discount on a report of a theft. Harmon management stated that a black male wearing a black coat and boots opened the exit door for another male and took a bag full of electronic merchandise worth $2400.00. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On 3/21, Officer Nacim responded to the area of JFK Parkway and Canoe Brook Rd. on a report of a motor vehicle accident. The driver of the vehicle, Mary Mascolo age 57 of West Orange, was subsequently arrested following an investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol. Mascolo was charged with careless driving, willfully causing her vehicle to be disabled, and driving under the influence of alcohol. Mascolo was then release pending a court date.
