Millburn Police Blotter: Dec. 29 to Jan. 4

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are reprinted directly from the Millburn police blotter, a listing of selected reports that may not include the full scope of activity in the area. All of the following incidents are accusations, and all suspects should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

On December 29, 2015, Millburn Police Officer Derosa responded to Shoprite on a theft report. Shoprite personnel reported a male with a beard wearing a black hat, dark jacket, blue jeans and brown boots concealed 10 baby formula packages and over the counter medicine valued at $96 in his pockets and fled the store with Shoprite security following. The subject fled southbound on Main Street. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On December 31, 2015, Millburn Police Officer Derosa responded to Sydney Thomas at The Mall at Short Hills on a fraud report. Sydney Thomas personnel reported an individual in the store was attempting to open a line of credit using a counterfeit credit card. Joshua Santiago, age 38, of Brooklyn, was stopped as he was exiting the store. The investigation led to Santiago’s arrest for forgery, hindering and falsely implicating another. Santiago was released pending a court date.

On January 1, 2016, Millburn Police Officer Catinella responded to Neiman Marcus on a theft report. Neiman Marcus personnel reported a female selected $4,695 worth of handbags and left the store without making payment. The actor then ran to an awaiting 2009 Nissan Altima in the parking lot. The actor got into an altercation with the driver of that vehicle who had driven her to the mall. The driver refused to transport the actor from the mall. The actor then fled in the vehicle. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On January 3, 2016, Millburn Police Officer Pinero responded to Sunglass Hut at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Sunglass Hut personnel reported that an 18 year old female from Union concealed two pairs of sunglasses valued at $765 and left the store without making payment. The female was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting, and released pending a court date.

On January 4, 2016, Millburn Police Officers Shanahan and Laverty responded to Walgreens on a theft report. Walgreens personnel reported 42 year old Charles Nelson III out of Irvington concealed 13 products valued at $100 in his pockets and left the store without making payment. Nelson was located at Broad St/Middle Ave in Summit where he was placed under arrest. Nelson was charged with shoplifting and released with a court date.

On January 4, 2016, Millburn Police Officer Lipke responded to an alarm on Exeter Road. The rear door of the residence was found to have been forced open, however nothing appeared to be missing according to the homeowner who responded. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
