The Willingboro man tried to flee the scene in his 2006 Mercedes Benz but crashed on Route 124, Millburn police said.

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn police arrested a Willingboro man earlier this month after he allegedly stole a $500 necklace from a person outside The Mall At Short Hills, then wrecked his car in a fiery crash on Route 124 while trying to get away, authorities say.

According to the Millburn Police Department, the incident began in the mall’s parking lot when Marquis Dixon, 22, of Willingboro, stole a $500 necklace from a person that he had met via an app on his phone.

Dixon then tried to flee the scene in his 2006 Mercedes Benz, ultimately crashing into a vehicle on Route 124 and striking a tree, lighting the vehicle ablaze, police said.
