Millburn Police Nab 5 Newark Teens Ages 15-18 After Pursuing Stolen Car

Millburn police officers responded to a report of a burglary and then saw a stolen car leaving the area. The car collided with a Tesla.

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn police officers nabbed five teens from Newark on Saturday after responding to a report of an attempted burglary.

The police said that on Saturday, May 28, around 1:31 p.m., Millburn Police Officer Herrera responded to the area of Coniston Road following a report of an attempted burglary to a garage.

Herrera received a description of the suspects' vehicle. He then saw a vehicle matching the description on Tennyson Drive.

Herrera began following the vehicle, a red 2018 Dodge Durango that was reported stolen out of Newark, police said.

The vehicle fled on White Oak Ridge Road and collided with a Tesla, police said.

Multiple occupants "bailed out of the Durango and fled on foot down Hartshorn Drive," police said.

Officers Herrera, Recinos and Goldfarb each chased down a subject on foot and other officers from Millburn, Summit, Springfield, and the Essex County Sheriff's Office joined the search.

The officers located another two suspects hiding in nearby yards, police said. Five people were apprehended.

Meanwhile, two occupants of the Tesla suffered minor injuries and were transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Of those apprehended, Dupree Turner, 18, from Newark, was charged with receiving stolen property and with obstruction, police said. He was later released on his own recognizance.

Two 17-year-old males and two 15-year-old females were charged with delinquency. Two of them were turned over to the Essex County Youth House and two were released to their parents, police said.
