Millburn Preps For Possible NJ Transit Strike: Travel Tips Here

Millburn town officials share some travel tips in case NJ Transit train workers strike on March 13.

Millburn, NJ - As Garden State commuters brace for a possible NJ Transit worker strike on March 13, Millburn township officials are advising residents to start preparing for a worst case scenario.

“With hundreds of passengers departing from the Millburn and Short Hills train stations every day, our community will certainly be impacted if the impending NJ Transit rail workers strike occurs,” town officials stated Thursday on the municipal website.

In preparation for a possible strike, Millburn officials offered local commuters some possible alternatives should a labor stoppage occur.

RIDESHARE/CARPOOL

“One alternative is to drive your automobile,” town officials stated. “However, given the anticipated increased traffic should the strike take place, carpooling would be highly recommended.”

Rideshare/carpool parking will be made available at the following locations:

  • Gero Park Parking Lot
  • Lot 7 – Millburn Train Station Lot
  • Lot 2 – Parking Deck

BUS ROUTES

According to town officials, NJ Transit will provide enhanced peak period service on 29 existing New York bus routes, including the following routes along the Morris and Essex Lines: 107X and 114X.

Additional bus routes are available from the Irvington Bus Terminal.

PATH TRAIN

The PATH train service is operated by the Port Authority of NY & NJ and will not be affected by the possible strike, town officials stated.

According to town officials, PATH service runs from Newark Penn Station into NYC at the World Trade Center (direct) or to 9th, 14th, 23rd and 33rd Streets (requires a transfer at Journal Square Station in Jersey City). PATH trains leave Newark Penn Station approximately every 5 minutes during the morning commute.
