Millburn 7th & 8th Grade Travel Softball Team 3-0
Millburn's 7th and 8th Grade Travel Softball Team kicked off the 2012 season with a resounding 11-2 win over Glen Ridge at home.
Jenna Dembner pitched the first four innings striking out 11 and allowing only one run. Maura Herbertson, who pitched the final 3 innings, also allowed only one run to cross the plate. Victoria Jordan led off the game with a hard hit single, one of her three hits on the day. She quickly stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on Anna Mandel's RBI groundout. Jenna Dembner scored Millburn's second run when she led off the 2nd inning with a single and than stole 2nd, 3rd and home. Millburn's bats didn't come alive until the fifth and sixth innings when the team scored 4 runs in each inning.
The scoring was highlighted by two homeruns hit by Emily Torre and Emily Bean. The infield played a sharp game with all players contributing to stopping the Glen Ridge offense.

Millburn traveled to South Orange for their second game and another win, 13-8. Millburn jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning when Emily Torre drove in Victoria Jordan and Anna Mandel with a double.
Jordan scored again in the third inning when Millburn added three more runs to build their lead to 6 to 1. South Orange came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth but Millburn jumped ahead for good in the 5th inning, scoring five runs.

Pitcher Jenna Dembner got on base all four times up to bat, recording two hits and two walks. Eliana Sirkin was on base all three of her at bats and Nina Scozzari laid down a perfect bunt to help Millburn add to their lead. Dembner pitched 6-1/3 innings to record the win and go 2-0 on the early season. She struck out 13 and gave up 5 hits and 6 walks.
Millburn's third game of the season was Tuesday night against South Orange/Maplewood, where the team scored 7 runs in the first inning on their way to a 21-0 win.
The game was called in the 5th inning as Millburn stretched their record to 3-0 on the season. The 7th and 8th grade girls used the same formula from the first two games in this game with Victoria Jordan and Anna Mandel "setting the table" to be driven in by the 3rd through 5th hitters. Jordan, who has reached base in 10 straight at bats and Mandel were on base 8 times in the first four innings.
Emily Bean and Katie Delidow also reached base in all of their at bats. Jenna Dembner notched her third victory and Maura Herbertson gained the save in relief. Dembner gave up 2 hits and 4 walks over 4 innings while striking out 5. Herbertson pitched a perfect 5th inning. Eliana Sirkin made a nice play in the outfield and threw for a double play at second to end the 2nd inning.
