Millburn School Budget Approved: 3.7 Percent Tax Increase for Homeowners

The $90 million plan will include infrastructure repairs at several schools.

The Millburn Board of Education approved a $90 million budget for the upcoming school year during its Monday meeting, which will require a tax increase of 3.7 percent, or $116 for a property valued at $500,000.

The budget will include $83,806,907 for the general fund, $1,510,530 for the special revenue fund and $4,719,574 for the debt service fund.

During the public hearing on Monday, school officials said that 37.5 percent of the budget will go toward regular education, 16.5 percent will go to special education, 5.26 percent will go to “other” education, 16.44 percent will go to employee benefits, 8.29 percent will go to operations and maintenance, and 7.37 percent will go to administration.

  • $400,000 to resurface Neigel Field
  • $60,000 to replace electrical panels at Millburn High School
  • $120,000 to repoint brick work and replace lentils at Millburn Middle School
  • $125,000 to replace water main valves at five schools
