Millburn School Snow Days, Delayed Openings: What To Do For 2016

Here's what to do school if school is cancelled or delayed this winter, Millburn.

Millburn, NJ – As North Jersey hunkers down for a possible nor’easter/snowstorm that forecasters say is “increasingly likely” to hit Friday afternoon, it’s helpful for local parents to brush up on what to do in event of a school snow day.

Here’s what the Millburn Public School District says to do for snow days, cancellations and delayed openings for the 2015-16 school year:

“If schools are closed, families will be notified early that morning by a phone call from our automated calling service. Families must fill out the Emergency Notification form to receive phone calls at selected phone numbers, as well as emails. If you do not submit a form with contact numbers you will be called only at your primary home phone number.”

  • Broadcast on local television stations WCBS, WNBC, WABC, FOX5 and News12.

  • Posted on local online news sites such as Patch and The Item

“Please do not call police headquarters for school closing information,” school officials state on the district website.

“A decision to close school for sudden storms, heating problems, or other emergencies during the day occasionally may have to be made,” administrators added. “In the event of an early dismissal due to an emergency, parents will be contacted using all of the contact methods mentioned above. In addition, at the K-5 level, we need to actually speak to an adult responsible for each child (either a parent or guardian or pre-identified responsible adult) before allowing the child to leave school. If contact cannot be made, the student will be kept safe at the school or at the Ed. Center until an adult can be reached. PTOs, along with the school principal and office, will help facilitate this process.”

DELAYED OPENING

“The two-hour delay will be used only when it appears that travel to school will be safe two hours after the regularly scheduled time for the opening of school,” school officials state. “The entire transportation system, and the faculty and student reporting times will operate exactly two hours later than normal. Normal lunch procedures will be followed. Dismissal times and afternoon bus schedules on delayed school opening days will be at their usual times.”

Notifications will be relayed in the same way as for school closing, officials state.

Delayed Opening Times:

  • Elementary: 10:35 a.m.
  • Middle School: 9:40 a.m.
  • High School: 9:45 a.m.
