Millburn Schools Deal With Email Phishing Scam: ‘Do Not Click On Links’

"At this time, there is no indication that student or staff data was accessed or compromised," a district administrators said.

MILLBURN, NJ — Did you get an email about “Items for Sale” in Millburn? It’s a scam, school officials say.

The Millburn Public School District recently issued an advisory about a “phishing” email that went out to some email accounts. The phony emails have the subject line: “Items for Sale.”

According to director of technology Mike Skara, district staff identified the issue and took immediate action.

The impacted accounts have been temporarily deactivated as a precaution, and the phishing emails have been marked as malicious and removed from mailboxes, Skara said.

“At this time, there is no indication that student or staff data was accessed or compromised,” Skara said.

The district is continuing to monitor systems closely to ensure the security of its network, he added.

“As a reminder, please do not click on links or open attachments from unexpected or suspicious emails,” Skara said. “If you receive a message that seems unusual, you can report it using the ‘Report Phishing’ option in your email or contact the technology department for assistance.”

“Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us maintain a safe and secure digital environment,” Skara said.
