The Millburn Seventh Grade Girls Travel Team defeated a tough Bloomfield team to advance to the Suburban League Championship Tuesday. The championship game will be played Friday at Millburn High School against Nutley at 8:30 p.m.
Millburn finished the regular season 14-0 and nine of their players are returning from a 15-1, Sixth Grade Championship run.
The 44-21 victory over Bloomfield in a semi-final matchup in Millburn, was a well balanced offensive and defensive attack. Elizabeth Elder hit two early three-point shots to spark a run that gave Millburn a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Millburn continued to move and shoot the ball well, extending their lead at half to 32-9, led by Jess Alexander’s 11 first half points. Alexander finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Paige Krikorian also had 13 points to go along with 6 assists.

Other strong performances included Kelsea Brown (2 points, 9 rebounds), Meg Damstrom (2 points, 4 steals) and Lauren O’Neill (4 points). Outstanding defensive play from Elisa Dalton, Ava Altenberger and Caitlin Lally while the offense was sparked by Lindsey Dinowitz, Jaqueline Marino and Jen Jacobs.
