Millburn Soccer Club squads compete in Essex Fall Tune-up Tournament.
The Millburn Soccer Club's Patriots won three of four matches last weekend to win the Boys Under-14 championship at the Essex Fall Tune-up Tournament.
Jake Bank scored the Patriots' lone goal in a tournament-opening 2-1 loss to the West Orange Flyers.
Will Elder, Connor Kirkwood, Romeo Ruiz and Ethan Podell each scored a goal in the Patriots' second match, a 4-0 rout of the West Orange Warriors. A goal by Ruiz gave the Patriots a 1-0 win over the Livingston Lightning in the squad's third tournament game.

Podell, Bank, Ruiz and Jordan Beacham scored in the penalty kick shootout, leading the Patriots to a 1-0 defeat of West Orange in the championship match on Sept. 11. West Orange scored twice in the shootout.
Keepers Enric Adillon and Kirkwood also starred for the Patriots.

The Milllburn Tornadoes claimed the Essex Fall Tune-up Tournament's Under-13 girls Flight A crown with a 1-0 penalty kick shootout win over the Vikings Football Club's Lady Vikings..
Anna Sophia Roberts scored in the fifth and final round of the shootout to give the Tornadoes the title.
Tori Defilippo and Rachel Hubertus also scored shootout goals for the Tornadoes. Hubertus also made two several saves in goal.
Julian Newman's bid for the game-winning goal in the final minute of regulation was thwarted by the Vikings' defense.
Deirdre Cunningham, Casey Hersh, Sarah Bressler and Casey Schwartz each turned in fine performances for Tornadoes.
Earlier on Sept. 11, Ally Langendorff's goal gave the Tornadoes a 1-0 win over the Montclair Pride to secure a spot in the final.
Central defenders Margaret Rae and Eva Melendes, fullbacks Catherine O'Neill and Lauren Weissman and keeper Lizzie Twombly also starred for the Tornadoes.
The Tornadoes split a pair of matches on Sept. 10, defeated the Vikings Football Club 3-0 and dropping a 1-0 shootout decision to the South Orange-Maplewood Cougar Flames.
Allison DeMeo scored two goals and Danielle Petrocelli added one in the win over the Vikings Football Club.
Defilippo, Melendes and Roberts tallied assists. Keeper Phoebe Oxley also starred.
The Tornadoes, in the tournament opener, were outscored 3-2 in the penalty kick shootout by South Orange-Maplewood.
The Millburn Gunners claimed the Essex Fall Tune-up Tournament's Under-9 boys crown.
Alexander Rothe, Alfie Smith and Blake Wiseman each scored a goal in the Gunners' tournament-opening 3-1 defeat of the Livingston Lumberjacks.
Midfielder Chris Maldonado and sweeper Alex Marx also starred for the Gunners.
Zachary Barr and Wiseman each scored a pair of goals in the Gunners' second match, a 6-0 rout of West Orange.
Michael O'Keef and Jason Mazer also scored for the Gunners. Isaac Lenner, Malcolm Migoya and keeper Jake Zirlin also excelled for the victors. Mazer's hat trick propelled the Gunners to a come-from-behind 3-2 defeat of Randolph. Mazer scored the winning goal with two minutes left.
In the final game against Montclair, Lenner and Wiseman each scored a goal in a 2-0 defeat of Montclair.
The Millburn Cyclones logged a runner-up finish in the Essex Fall Tune-Up Tournament with a 3-0-1 record. Julia Fried's goal gave the Cyclones a tournament-opening 1-0 defeat of Livingston.
In their second match, the Cyclones played a scoreless tie with Chatham.
Hannah Barr's goal gave the Cyclones a 1-0 win over New Providence.
Sophie Wolf and Barr each scored a goal in the Cyclones' 2-0 win in the tournament finale.
The Millburn Rangers finished 2-2 in the Boys Under-9 division play in the Essex Fall Tune-Up Soccer Tournament.
The Rangers received stellar defense from Henry Miller, Lucas Skolnick and Ryder Stine in a tournament-opening 3-0 loss to the Verona United Storm on Sept. 9.
On Sept. 10, the Rangers defeated West Orange United's Inter 6-0 and West Orange United's Strikers 6-1.
Richard Erhardt and Benjy Goldberg each scored three goals for the Rangers. The local booters also received two goals from Eric Jones and one each from Graham Abramo, Jason Lefkort and Mark Hubertus. Assists were made by Danny Skolnick and Goldberg.
On Sept. 11, the Rangers dropped a 2-1 decision to the Livingston Lizards. The Rangers received a goal from Goldberg and stellar defense from Andrew Meyer and Jonah Liwschitz.
The Millburn Rowdies dropped three of four matches in the Essex Fall Tune-up Tournaemt.
On Sept. 10, the Rowdies received a goal from Brynn Freeman in a 7-1 loss to the World Class Club. Also on Sept. 10, the Rowdies also dropped a 4-0 decision to the Livingston
On Sept. 11, Ella Chrzanowski scored two goals and Maxine Herbst and Freeman each scored a goal in the Rowdies' 4-0 defeat of West Orange. Rosie Parlavecchio and Sophie Zangara also starred for the Rowdies. Also on Sept. 11, Charley Schwartz scored the Rowdies' lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Livingston. Mia Dalton, Megan Klein and Harley Rosenbaum played well in a losing effort.
The Millburn Blast went 1-2-1 in the Essex Fall Tune-up Tournament.
The Montville Lightning defeated the Blast 3-0 in the tournament opener. Ryan Garfinkle's goal gave the Blast a 1-1 tie with the Cranford Fury in the local booters' second match.
Jack Hall, Jake Friedman and Garfinkle each scored a goal in the Blast's third tournament match, a 3-1 win over the Livingston Lions. Garfinkle and Friedman collected assists in the match.
The Blast dropped a 4-0 decision to Montclair United White in the finale. Keepers Luke Pickard and Michael Stulberger starred for the Blast. Defenders Justin Green, Andrew Wohlbruck, Jacob Popolow and Harry Richman also turned in stellar efforts for the Blast.
After observing a moment of silence in memory of the victims of 9/11, the Pythons went on to win their season home-opener in a 1-0 defeat of the FC Somers. Christiano Hocken scored the lone goal for the Pythons off an assist from Spencer Schneider. Keeper Perry Schwartz tallied his first shut-out of the season with several spectacular saves and powerful punts. The Pythons kept the ball moving as forwards Eric Silverstein and Justin Ehly kept up the pressure with runs at the goal while, at midfield, Drew Cohn, Andrew Karp, Logan Schneider, Will Anton, Connor Lally, and Matthew Brenner coordinated the offensive action with outstanding passes and play-making. Gabriel Nadel, Brandon Rossi, Richie Schiekofer and Justin Wang, were tough and solid forcing a number of turnovers and frustrating the opponents' attempts to score.
Josiah Crawford,Reese Little,and Cole Smith each scored a goal, propelling the Millburn Titans to a 3-1 defeat against Morris United (STA).
Dylan Kozelmann made a spectacular save in the second half to keep the Titans ahead. Daniel Sokolin did a good job distributing the ball in the middle.
