Millburn Soccer Club Squads Compete in Tournaments

Several teams compete in action during the Memorial Day weekend.

Several Millburn Soccer Club teams participated in tournament action during the Memorial Day weekend.

The Pythons emerged as the victors of the Chatham United Memorial Day Weekend Tournament, U-11 division, shutting out their opponents in three of four games and tying one game, 0-0.  The Pythons did not allow a single goal against them in the entire tournament reflecting outstanding efforts by offense, defense and in goal.

In Saturday's match-up against the East Hanover United (3-0), Logan Schneider led off the scoring with the assist going to Drew Cohn.  Eric Silverstein rocketed in a second goal with Conner Lally adding a third on an assist from Matthew Brenner.  In game two, against the Somerset Hills Rooney, (2-0),  Christiano Hocken scored off an assist from Spencer Schneider with Cohn blasting in a second goal.

In Sunday's tournament action, robust defensive play by Gabriel Nadell, Justin Wang, Andrew Karp, Max Engelbrechtsen and keeper Justin Ehly kept the Scotch Plains Wolverines scoreless in the third game of the tourney.  Sebastian Vazquez, Ben Kessler, and Josiah Crawford kept up the pressure on offense with precision passing and powerful shots on goal barely saved by the Scotch Plains keeper.

The Pythons cemented their victory in game four (5-0) with two goals from Silverstein—one off a cross from Brenner and another assist going to Logan Schneider.  Perry Schwartz scored for the Pythons with goals tallied by Spencer Schneider and Hocken, to lead the Pythons to an overwhelming and well-deserved victory.

In the Chatham Cougar Tournament, the Monarchs finished 2-2 to place third in the U10 Gold Division. On Saturday the Monarch had a convincing win over Wayne. Peri Lamkin scored three goals and Zoë Grebin added one. Ava Fitzsimons had two assist, and Ami Giamachi had the other two assists to lead the Monarchs to a 4-1 victory. In the second game the Monarch lost 7-4 to Livingston. Peri Lamkin scored four goals, receiving assist from Alysse Riesman and Ava Fitzsimons. Megah Gupta,  Kerry Driscoll and Missy Gates played solid defense in the lost.  On Sunday the Monarch lost 4-1 to Scotch Plains. Solid play from Zoë Grebin and Orli Forester kept the game close to the very end. Peri Lamkin score the lone goal on a penalty kick. In the final game, the Monarchs beat a physical Florham Park team. Missy Gates scored the first goal, assisted by Peri Lamkin. Lamkin than tallied her fourth hat trick of the week for a 4-2 win Florham Park. Zoe Grebin played solid in goal and the defense was lead by Orli Forester and Alysee Riesman.

In their first round of the 29th Annual Cougar Soccer Club Memorial Day Tournament, the Millburn Soccer Club Eclipse Girls shut out the Maplewood/South Orange Cougar United Rockers Girls 6-0 on Friday in Maplewood. Scoring for the Eclipse with two goals each were Zoe Taitel and Emily Dalton and with one goal each were Tara Sood and Izzy Kam. As the Eclipse's keeper, Sarah Gordan held the Rockers scoreless in the match.

On Saturday, Sarah Gordan of the Eclipse Girls held the Belleville SC Girls scoreless 2-0 in second round play. Tara Sood and Sarah Salter accounted for the two Eclipse goals while Emily Cross, Nora Cunningham, Cameron Harris and Lauren Young anchored the defense.

In semi-final round play on Sunday, the Eclipse Girls overcame the Union Storm Girls 1-0 in a 4-2 shoot out at Maplecrest Field in South Orange. Sarah Gordan and Zoe Taitel split keeper duties, and Sara Fogel, Gwyn Haertel, Kelly Hernon, and Dana Leichter shown on offense for the Eclipse.

The Eclipse Girls took first place in the Girls U13/U14 White Division of the 29th Annual Cougar Soccer Club Memorial Day Tournament on Sunday. The girls won 1-0 over the Cougar SC Strikers in Meadowlands Park in South Orange. Tallying the lone goal for the Eclipse was Zoe Taitel while Katie Fitzgerald played keeper in the tournament finale.

The  Millburn Monarchs finished regular season with strong 3-1 win over Colonia Wednesday night. Peri Lamkin scored all 3 goals, and Ava Fitzsimons, Olivia Stack and Zoë Grebin had assists. Orli Forester, Nikita Mahendru Megah Gupta starred on defensive.

The U-10 Millburn Titans lost a tough match to Westfield on a scorcher of a Memorial Day.  Reese Little scored on a header off of a Ben Pampush cross. Johnny Wang played strong defense in the 2-1 losing effort.
