Millburn Soccer's Tornadoes Are Flight Champions

The girls then lose to Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Friday to end their playoff run.

The Millburn Soccer Club became the Mid New Jersey U11G flight 4 champions with a 1-0 win last Thursday in Princeton. The game was a tie-breaker to decide the winners.

Both teams played skillful, entertaining soccer, with the Tornadoes having the edge in possesion and territory It was rewarded late in the first half when Ally Langendorff scored directly from a corner kick. Once ahead, the Tornadoes were not to be thwarted, as their solid defence of Lauren Weissman, Darice Lee, Margaret Rae and Lizzie Twombly combined to contain all Princeton attacks. Daniella Petrocelli and Shannon Tanner up front threatened to extend the Tornadoes lead.

In the end, the single goal was enough to decide the contest with Tornadoes running our worthy winners to claim top spot in the flight.

 On Friday, the Tornadoes playoff run came to an end when a single goal in extra-time from Scotch Plains-Fanwood Sky Blues was enough to settle the result. There had been no score after regulation.
