In Millburn: Stolen Acura / Apartment Fire / Using Anti-Shoplifting Device To Shoplift

Police Blotter: Sept. 2 to 5

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are reprinted directly from the Millburn police blotter, a listing of selected incidents that may not include the full scope of activity in the area. All of the following incidents are accusations, and all suspects should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

On September 2, 2015, Millburn Police Officer Manuyag stopped a 2012 Nissan Altima at The Mall at Short Hills for failing to stop at a stop sign and for a safety glass violation. The driver, 22 year old Antoine Green out of Orange, was found to have an active warrant out of West Orange. Green was placed under arrest and issued summonses for driving while suspended, careless driving, and the safety glass violation. Green was released with a new court date.

On September 3, 2015, Millburn Police Officers Tavares and Smeraldo responded to the Lakeside Village apartments on a report of a fire. The resident states he accidentally caused the fire in his apartment while cooking. The Millburn Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. There were no reported injuries.

On September 3, 2015, Millburn Police Officers responded to Abercrombie and Fitch at The Mall at Short Hills on a report of a theft that had just occurred. Abercrombie and Fitch personnel reported 26 year old Juan Alvaradoibaceta and 24 year old Angel Toropagan, both from Corona, NY, concealed five shirts valued at $250 in a booster bag before fleeing the store. Both subjects were arrested and charged with shoplifting and using an antishoplifting control device. Alvaradoibaceta was found to have an active warrant out of Freehold and was turned over to the Freehold Police Department.

On September 4, 2015, Millburn Police Officer Silance responded to 150 JFK Pkwy on a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim reports parking his 2013 Acura TI at 9:30 a.m. in the lot and returning at 2 p.m. when he noticed his vehicle missing. The vehicle was entered stolen.

On September 5, 2015, Millburn Police Officer Kaiser responded to Bloomingdales at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Bloomingdales personnel reported that 24 year old Davit Gurgenidze out of Brooklyn, concealed three articles of clothing valued at $1,445 in a bag and fled the store. Gurgenidze was found hiding behind a dumpster located at 101-103 JFK Pkwy. Gurgenidze was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of shoplifting. Gurgenidze was released pending a court date.
