Millburn Superintendent Gives Initial Back-To-School Details
Superintendent Christine Burton said she will give more details about Millburn's back-to-school plan around Aug. 6. School starts Sept. 1.
MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn Schools Superintendent Christine Burton said in a newsletter late last month that with school starting Sept. 1, school officials are working on details of reopening.
"Our goal for the coming year is 'To keep staff and students safe and physically present in school,' " she said. "We will take all measures necessary to maintain this mission. Meetings have begun with building principals and administrators."
Topics of discussion include "health tracking, wearing of masks, social distancing requirements, substitute teachers, lunchtime, vaccinations, quarantine procedures, visitors in the buildings, remote learning, curricular needs, Covid testing, before and after care, and Back to School Nights," she said.

Burton said the priorities have been outlined in the state's The Road Forward document.
"We anticipate sharing our start of school plans around August 6th with more information to follow," she said. "We are watching the current landscape as we monitor the impact of vaccinations and the Delta variant. We are awaiting more specific [state] guidance."

In June, Gov. Phil Murphy said that each district will make a decision about masks in the schools. With the rise of the Delta variant, the guidance may change.
Burton did release some details of start and end times at the schools, childcare, transportation, and more. Here are more details:

Childcare Planning
AlphaBest and the SAM Program provide before and after school care for school district families. You can find more information about their programs here: https://www.millburn.org/apps/pages/Before_Afterschool_Care
Transportation Planning
Another part of our planning for the start of school is the coordination and communication of the busing routes for our students who ride the bus. While busing provides a convenience for many families, please note that busing is also considered a safety measure for the district and the town in that bus ridership decreases traffic and pedestrian risk of injury.
If you will not be using subscription busing this year due to working from home or other family schedule changes, please consider carpooling or other safety measures (i.e. walking to school, having students ride their bike) to reduce traffic during drop off and pick up times.
Board of Education
"We plan to continue holding public meetings in the Board Room. All members of the community are invited to attend. Meetings will no longer be broadcast via Webex, but they are recorded and the recording is posted on the website under Board of Education Meeting Videos."
