MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn High School students have won 52 awards in the Northern New Jersey Regional Scholastic Art competition, the school district announced on Tuesday. The Scholastic Art and Writing competition is sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, and has been run since 1923.

The pieces that won the Gold Key, the top regional honor, will also be juried for National Scholastic awards. The ceremony will be held at Carnegie Hall in New York City in spring.

Some of America’s most celebrated artists and artists have received honors in the contest while they were teenagers, including Andy Warhol, Zac Posen, Idelle Weber, Ken Burns, Luis Jiménez, and Kay WalkingStick.

The mission of the competition is to identify, inspire, and validate the next generation of artists and writers.

A panel of jurors, consisting of artists, photographers, designers, educators, and curators reviewed thousands of works of art submitted by students in grades seven through 12 from throughout North Jersey. The process is "blind" so the jurors do not know any personal information (name, town, school).
