Millburn Temporarily Lifts Leaf Blower Ban For Storm Cleanup

Millburn is allowing the use of gas-powered leaf blowers after a severe summer storm. Here's when the town's normal rules resume.

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn is suspending its seasonal ban on gas-powered leaf blowers until Friday evening as residents continue to dig out from last weekend’s storms.

The town’s ordinance restricts the dates and times when gas-powered leaf blowers can legally be used by professional landscapers, residents and township employees. The devices are prohibited entirely during winter (Jan. 1 through March 15) and summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day — this year, May 26 through Sept. 7).

The ban is being temporarily lifted to assist with cleanup efforts from last weekend’s stormy weather, which left a significant amount of debris scattered across Millburn.

According to an advisory from the township:

“Effective immediately, residents and their registered landscape contractors may use gas-powered leaf blowers for storm-related cleanup through the end of the business day on Friday, July 10. Please note that this is a temporary suspension intended solely to facilitate storm debris cleanup. All other provisions of the township’s leaf blower ordinance remain in effect, and the seasonal restriction will resume at the close of business on Friday, July 10.”
