Millburn Township Reorganization Meeting 2019

Millburn Democrats Make History

History was made this past week in Millburn Township. For the first time ever, five Democrats took the their seats on the Millburn Township Committee. The members already serving are Dianne Thall Eglow, Jacqueline Benjamin Leiberberg, Cheryl Burstein and Samuel Levy.

This past November, newcomer, Tara Prupis defeated Republican holdout Jodi Rosenberg by 425 votes to became the fifth and final Democrat on the Committee.

Before the official start of the meeting, Essex County Clerk Christopher J Durkin swore in Prupis. Prupis's daughter Fayona held the bible for her mother. Durkin remarked that he was simply carrying out the voice and will of the people.

Once a seated Township Committee member, Prupis joined her colleagues in electing Thall-Eglow as Mayor and Benjamin-Leiberberg as Deputy Mayor. Addressing the packed room, Eglow assured the enthusiastic crowd that her administration will be one of inclusion. She mentioned that our community has many talented residents and everyone needs to share their opinions and work together in making Millburn-Short Hills a great place to both live and work. She acknowledged that there are challenges ahead but nothing too big for a community like ours to tackle.

Dignitaries in the crowd included former Millburn Mayors Elaine Becker and Dan Baer, Essex County Freeholders Patricia Sebold and Len Luciano, Essex County Democratic Chairman Leroy Jones ,Township Democratic Chairwomen Annette Romano, Roseland Councilwomen Eileen Fishman, and Assemblyman John McKeon. The next Township Committee meeting will be January 15th at 7:30 in Town Hall.
