Millburn Township Warns Of Fraudulent Emails Posing As Employees

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn Township is alerting residents about fraudulent emails from people “pretending to represent township employees.”

In a “Notice to Residents about Fraudulent Emails” email alert, the Township said the messages may reference outstanding applications and try to pressure recipients into sending money for fees or escrow payments, or giving personal information.

“Please know these messages did not come from Millburn Township,” the alert said.

The Township advises residents to contact it using phone numbers on its official website, rather than use phone numbers or links included in a suspicious email.

It told residents to watch for urgent or threatening payment requests and check senders’ addresses for misspellings or unusual domains. Recipients should avoid clicking links or opening attachments and never send personal, financial or banking information by email.

“If something feels off,” the notice said, “trust your instincts—call the Township to double-check.”
