Millburn's Leaf Blower Ban Through Labor Day. What To Know

The township's seasonal restrictions and hourly limits are already in effect, with the registration fee waived for 2026.

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn Township has enacted two ordinances regulating the use of gas-powered leaf blowers by professional landscapers, residents, and township employees — and with summer nearly here, a seasonal ban is already in effect.

Under Ordinances 2707-25 and 2714-25, gas-powered leaf blowers are prohibited entirely during winter (Jan. 1 through March 15) and summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day — this year, May 26 through Sept. 7).

That means they are currently not permitted until after Labor Day.

During the allowed seasons — spring (March 16 through the day before Memorial Day) and fall (the day after Labor Day through Dec. 31) — use is restricted to specific hours. On weekdays, blowers may be used between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. On weekends, the window is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Golf courses have a slightly expanded window of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The ordinances also require landscaping businesses to register with the township, though the registration fee has been waived for 2026.
