UPDATE: Hundreds In Millburn Still Without Power After Storm

JCP&L customers are still reporting hundreds of power outages in Millburn after a nor'easter, town officials said.

MILLBURN, NJ – Note: This article has been updated with information from a March 5 Millburn municipal news advisory.

More than 400 Millburn properties are still without power as of Monday after a nor’easter passed through the North Jersey area over the weekend, municipal officials said.

On Monday, Millburn town officials released the following advisory:

"Millburn Township continues to have approximately 400 customers without power, according to JCP&L. In addition to some restoration of customers yesterday, it is the Township’s understanding that a ticket effecting 200 customers in Short Hills has been assigned a crew that are working towards restoration. This crew is addressing an area that experienced several broken poles and downed wires in the street and cleanup will take some time."

Millburn officials said that they were "consistently in touch" with JCP&L, and was "pressing them" for resources and information.

"Unfortunately JCP&L’s service area was hit particularly hard and they are still addressing life safety issues first in a very large service area," Millburn officials stated. "For the most up to date and accurate information, residents should refer to the JCP&L’s outage map. Residents should continue to assume a restoration of Tuesday at 11:30 p.m. as initially indicated by JCP&L. The Township will continue to communicate with residents any additional information, updates, and progress of JCP&L’s efforts."

PRIOR ALERTS

On Saturday evening, Millburn town officials released the following advisory:

“The Township of Millburn continues to experience approximately 426 JCP&L customer outages. JCP&L is continuing make conditions safe by clearing downed wires and removing trees from roadways and wires. A damage assessment and global estimated time of restoration is being worked on by JCP&L. Some customers may receive automated calls from JCP&L announcing a restoration time. This may not be an accurate estimation due to the large impact of the storm. Please continue to follow JCP&L’s outage map and social media for updates. This will be the most accurate information available. Conservatively, according to JCP&L, efforts could take several days with over 125,000 customers out of power in their northern service area. We also encourage residents to remain cautious when encountering any downed wires or trees. Vouchers for water and ice are being distributed at the Shop Rite on Main Street for those JCP&L customers without power. Residents are also able to use the Millburn Free Public Library during normal business hours as a place to warm up and charge up if necessary.”

Millburn officials continued:

“Monday, March 5 begins the Township’s herbaceous waste pick up during our resident’s first trash pick-up day. We understand that debris from the storm will need to be put out for this pick up. We ask all residents to comply with the 4 inch diameter and 4 feet length requirements to aid Public Works in the safe and efficient pick up of this debris. Any small or fine debris should be placed in a receptacle or biodegradable bag.”

Millburn officials added:

“Western drive by Taylor Rd. remains closed for a downed tree and wires. Please plan an alternate route around this area. Unless significant changes take place, the next update issued by the Township will be at 12:00pm on Sunday. Please continue to check the Township’s website and social media outlets for information.”
