The home break-in happened June 21, 2013, when Custis broke into the woman's Millburn home in the middle of the day.
He punched, kicked and beat the woman, finally throwing her down the basement stairs, police said. Her 3-year-old daughter sat on a living room couch and watched the entire violent attack, and her 18-month-old son slept upstairs, according to police.
Custis then stole jewelry and a cell phone from the home and fled. The graphic attack was all captured on the home's nanny cam, provided by nj.com. Custis is now on trial for the attack.
