New Principal, Assistant Superintendent Appointed

Committee also appointed for the superintendent search

The Board of Education filled two vacancies with one vote on Monday night, appointing a new South Mountain Elementary principal and assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and technology.

Scott Wolfe was voted to be the new South Mountain principal starting in September, and Elaine Vislocky was chosen as the assistant superintendent, starting in July.

Wolfe will earn $124,589, and Vislocky will earn $153,000. Vislocky currently serves as the head of the district's technology program and will earn the same as her current salary with the expanded role.

Wolfe currently serves as an instructional supervisor at Deerfield Elementary School. He also served as a fifth grade teacher at the school.

South Mountain parents attended a recent school board meeting to express concern about the number of principals that have served at the school in recent years—six in eight years. They were seeking a principal that will serve more than a short time.

Schools Supt. Richard Brodow said he believes Wolfe will serve the South Mountain school well for years to come.

Vislocky has served the district's technology program well, he said, and he believes she will bring her exceptional skills to her new role.

In addition to the two appointments, the school board also named its superintendent search committee. Board members Noreen Brunini, Debra Fox, Samuel Levy and Mark Zucker will serve on the committee. Levy will be the committee's chairman.

Brodow recently announced he would retire after the 2009-10 school year.

Brunini, who is the board's president, said the format and parameters of the search have yet to be determined, but would be discussed during a retreat on Tuesday.
