NJ Youth Chorus Announces New Class For 2016-17

3rd and 2nd Graders Invited to Make Joyful Music

Primi Passi (pree-mee pa-see, meaning “First Steps”) is a non-auditioned choral music experience for boys and girls in the 3rd grade. Lessons will cover basic choral technique and music reading skills, using song, musical games and folk dance. The songs will be specially selected for this age group. It is a wonderful way for children to explore their interest in music and singing, and could be a path to other opportunities within the New Jersey Youth Chorus.

Our Level 1 class will meet in Chatham on Tuesdays from 4:30 – 5:30 PM, for 8 weeks starting on September 20th. A Level II class will be offered in the spring for those who have completed Level I. A Level I class will also be offered in the spring, for 2nd graders and new 3rd graders.

The New Jersey Youth Chorus is an auditioned choral program for children in grades three through twelve. Our mission is to provide exceptional choral music education and performance experiences, fostering expression, artistry and growth. Our five ensembles perform locally, nationally and internationally for community, civic and corporate audiences. Recent events include two performances with the New Jersey Symphony of Home Alone, a performance with Canadian Brass, the National Anthem for the NY Mets, “America the Beautiful” with Queen Latifah at Super Bowl XLVIII, an invited performance with 6-time Grammy Award winners The Chieftains in NYC, a High School Festival at Carnegie Hall, and a recorded CD entitled “Stand Together, Music of Hope and Healing,” which was donated to cancer patients at area hospitals, as well as tours to New Orleans, Disneyland, and Canada. NJYC will celebrate its 25th Anniversary Season this year, with many exciting performances and workshops scheduled.
